Lacey and Free

“You are the books you read, the films you watch, the music you listen to, the people you meet, the dreams you have, the conversations you engage in. You are what you take from these. You are the sounds of the ocean, the breath of fresh air, the brightest light and the darkest corner. You are a collective of every experience you have had in your life. You are every single second of every single day. So drown yourself in a sea of knowledge and existence. Let the words run through your veins and let the colors fill your mind.”

I don’t know if it’s the lace, or the ruffles or the billow-y nature of this dress, but it makes me want to do twirls on top of mountain tops… something reminiscent of Julie Andrews and the sound of music.

But really, I saw this tunic at GG’s in Fort Collins and instantly fell in love. I don’t normally do “tunics” cause most of the time they’re too short, OR my legs are too long, but this one seemed juuussstt right.

On another note, this month I’ve been really trying to live intentionally with making changes to lead me to the life I want to be living. Sounds daunting I know, but even little changes are better than nothing!

In my recent post How to Survive your 20s I talked about how we attract the same qualities that we give off.

I have a few friends that are newly single, and we were talking about how they weren’t finding the type of men that they were really interested in. They were then given the advice to write down the top ten qualities they’re looking for in a mate, and start to become those same qualities.

It’s a pretty basic idea, but if you want to spend time with someone who is joyful, you yourself have to be joyful. Someone who is well read? Maybe you too should pick up a book. And so on…

This got me thinking in my own life. What are the characteristics of the people I want to surround myself with, and what traits do I need to work on in my own life?

Well this month it’s spontaneity.

I love the idea of being adventurous and chasing a moment’s whim, but I’m a planner. I like lists, and calendars and knowing when and where I’m supposed to be and who I’ll be with. But this month I’m challenging myself with saying “yes” to more impromptu invitations, and giving myself the freedom to be uncomfortable.

It’s nothing huge, but this month I’ve said yes to things I normally wouldn’t have, and spent time with people I haven’t had the chance to in the past, and its been SO GOOD.

I don’t know what you have going on in your own life, but I challenge you to do the same. Chase after the people and things that bring your life joy and beauty, and say yes to being a little more uncomfortable.
